A video of a child being scolded and slapped during a math lesson has gone viral on social media, invoking outrage from several quarters, including cricket captain Virat Kohli.
Kohli was among the first ones to post the video on Instagram and wrote: “The fact that the pain and anger of the child is ignored and one’s own ego to make the child learn is so massive that compassion has totally gone out of the window. This is shocking and saddening to another dimension. A child can never learn when intimidated. This is hurtful.” By 9.30pm, the video had garnered 1.9 million views from the skipper’s 15.1 million Instagram followers. The post had over 18,000 comments. It is not clear when and where the 69-second video was first posted.
It shows a child, less than five years of age, sitting on a bed with a notebook reciting numbers as she learns how to count. She is scolded by a woman and has tears streaming down her face and begs to be treated gently, only to be slapped by the woman. Many shared the video online, finding it funny, pitching it as something to remind one of one’s childhood.
