India’s first train with glass roof, LED lights launched

chieving a milestone, the Indian Railways has launched the country’s first ever Vistadome coach services on Visakhapatnam-Araku route. Union Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu inaugurated the facility at Vizag railway station through a video conference from Railway Sadan, Bhubaneswar, the headquarters of the East Coast Railway, on Sunday.

While flagging off the train with Vistadome coaches between Visakhapatnam and Araku through video conferencing from Rail Sadan in Bhubaneswar, he said that the Vistadome coaches’ features will enable tourists to enjoy scenic beauty along the journey. The new coaches offer a great travel experience for the passengers. All Vistadome Coaches have features such as glass roof, rotatable chairs, LED lights, GSP-based information system and etc., While Life Line Express is beneficial for poor patients, Vistadome Coaches will have all the above mentioned features. Suresh Prabhu even laid foundation for Mechanised Laundry under BOOT Model at Visakhapatnam.

A function was also arranged at Visakhapatnam in which a number of public representatives including MP Kothapalli Geetha and several MLAs were present.

The glass domes have electronically controlled opalescence. As a result, the transparency of the roofs can be adjusted. Travelers along picturesque routes like the Vishakhapatnam-Araku stretch can enjoy the view along the journey. The minister also shared pictures of the vistadome coaches that have special facilities for the aged and the disabled like wide side doors and automatically sliding compartment doors. The coaches are likely to be pressed into action for passengers. 

The services would be opened for public from Wednesday. The passengers can book the tickets online from Tuesday by paying approximately `650 per person.  The train will leave from Vizag railway station at 7.15 am daily and it will start from Araku at 4 pm during the return journey. The passengers can have panoramic view en route to Araku sitting in the revolving chairs. They can also enjoy the scenic beauty at the space available at the end of the coach. The fare of these coaches will be higher than the existing general fare.
